Stage 1: Results / Stage 2: Prelude

August 24th, 2008

The votes were made and the ballots were dropped in the electronic ballot box. As you will see, I’ll be writing the previous weeks question and options at the top of every stage. Even if you didn’t vote, it’s important to see what was turned down. As I’ve said before, there are consequences for the choices you don’t make.

I won’t list the percentages though. I will mention them only on the blog and the Facebook page. Here are the results for Stage 1:

a. Confide in her. (22.2%)

b. You’re not ready to talk about it. (55.5%)

c. Take the unknown object out of your pocket, hoping it isn’t a condom or a bullet. (22.2%)

FYI: I, the author, don’t cast a vote. If it ever comes to a tie, I’ll flip a coin.
Also, on the Pit of Despair mainpage, it will say closed beneath past stages. That’s just the poll; each stage is still available to read and there’s a direct link to the next stage at the bottom of the page.

Until tomorrow ~HD

Stage 1: The Polls are closed.

August 20th, 2008

Thank you to everyone who voted.

The votes are being counted and recounted. This is a majority rules story, so it will progress in the way most of you have decided.

We restart Monday.

As the Pit of Despair nears…Mailing Lists

August 14th, 2008

Ignore that bit about votes in the last post. A link to the polling place will appear at the end of each installment. Simply click on vote and you’ll be taken there. If you wish to be added to a mailing list, send an email to pitofdespair@hamishdee.com (Subject: Mailing List). Through this list, I will send you a weekly message, announcing the next stage’s availability. Or join the Facebook group and get the same message there.

Pit of Despair: An Interactive Novel by Hamish Dee

August 7th, 2008

I created this group on my Facebook page already. That description of the project is also apt here:

Bravely forgoing the antiquated, paper-and-ink format of traditional literature, Hamish Dee will be writing and posting his next book directly on Facebook and www.hamishdee.com. Hamish is doing this, first, for the joy of bringing you his latest work in real-time. Also, he feels like he shouldn’t have to make all of the decisions in the novel just because he’s the author. Every week, Hamish will post a chapter online and at the end of each chapter a decision facing the main character must be made. A list of options will be given and the readers will vote on his next move, thus shaping the story. There is no prewriting or voter fraud in the project. Hamish is just winding the mechanism, where it goes depends on you.

–Let me translate. On Monday, August 18th, I will post the first installment of this novel, Pit of Despair, here and on the Facebook page. Each installment will be about five pages long, so you can read it during a commercial break or while you wait for the Dramamine to take effect. By the following Thursday, you should have read the installment and voted on the next one, giving me Friday and the weekend to actually write it. With luck, this will happen every week. You can email votes to pitofdespair@hamishdee.com (Subject: Vote), or take the Facebook option, which has yet to be sorted.
Accordance?
